More about support

Google Analytics

This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”).

Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States.

The IP anonymization is avticated, so Google will truncate/anonymize the last octet of the IP address for Member States of the European Union as well as for other parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases, the full IP address is sent to and shortened by Google servers in the USA.

On behalf of the website provider Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage to the website provider.

Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser. However, please note that if you do this, you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website.

Furthermore you can prevent Google’s collection and use of data (cookies and IP address) by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available under https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en-GB.

Data that was collected for this website by Google Analytics will be automatically deleted after 14 Months. The UserID feature is also not enabled.

Cookies

As mentioned above some cookies will be set by Google Analytics.

As YouTube videos are included in some posts and the underlying technology is an iframe, YouTube will be able to set cookies. All YouTube videos on this blog are embeded using the www.youtube-nocookies.com domain to prevent this from happening. However, the actual amount of cookies set from that domain and whatever YouTube does with these requests on their servers is completely controlled by YouTube. They may decide one day to set tracking cookies from youtube-nocookie.com as well.

There is only one cookie set by this website itself and it stores the information that you have read and accepted the Information about cookies and Goolge Analytics in the popup banner, so you do not have to engange that banner on every visit again.

VG-Wort Pixel

This website is registered at the German VG Wort association to participate in the annual distribution for authors. To determine if a blog post is eligible, the VG Wort counts the amount of readers per year. To achieve this, a pixel is integrated into every article page that enables VG Wort to count. Of course we do not really know what VG Wort does with these requests despite counting them. This is why many add blocker block VG Wort Pixels by default. However, as a content creator I'd kindly ask you to unblock them as it increases the chances of the blog posts to reach the threshold of clicks needed for participation. If you don't - that's fine, too. Now you know at least what those requests are about.
